Karachi: Muhammad Zubair, a senior head of the Pakistan Muslim Association Nawaz (PML-N) and previous Legislative leader of Sindh, has surrendered. The development is significant as Zubair was among the key figures in PML-N.
In an elaborate statement, Muhammad Zubair, also a spokesperson for Nawaz Sharif, said. It took some time for him to make this decision. He said he had been thinking about this for quite some time now and that there came a point. When he had to announce formally. “I decided to leave PML-N long ago,” said Zubair as he added, “Now I have decided to quit the party.”
He cited changes in priorities and principles as reasons behind his parting ways with the party. Zubair stated that until PML-N stood by civilian supremacy. He remained loyal to it but was disillusioned when the power struggle became its sole focus. “When it becomes all about staying in power by any means necessary. Then it becomes very difficult,” he said while underlining the party’s changed position from where better separation seemed appropriate. “The party’s position had changed and it was better to separate,” he added that his stand on these issues had already been clarified over time.
Zubair listed several points of disagreement, including the no-confidence motion. The government and the 16-month performance of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). He also stated that their vision of politics differed from what the party currently practices.” We wanted to do politics based on people’s trust,” he asserted, pointing out that their slogan ‘Respect the Vote’ showed faith in power bestowed upon them by public confidence.
Moreover, Muhammad Zubair explained his position regarding joining other political parties, saying so far, none attracted him, including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s new political entity.“I have not decided yet to join any party, including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s new party,” he said. Zubair stated that he would take his time to think over what lies ahead of him politically, consulting with friends and advisers before making any commitments.” I will decide my political future after consulting with friends,” he added.
Zubair had been a close aide of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in the PML-N. This marks an important development for the party and raises questions about its direction.
At a time when alliances are shifting rapidly within politics, supporters and detractors alike will be watching closely to see. Where does Zubair go next? His departure could signal wider changes in the political landscape. At the same time, his subsequent moves might shape broader narratives around Pakistan’s politics.
Pakistani politics has changed significantly in the last few years, and one example is Muhammad Zubair leaving PML-N. This does not only indicate that much remains to be discovered about this transformation’s implications for the future of our nation.
