Biden vs Trump: Immigration Debate in Atlanta

Joe Biden vs Trump will use the first debate in Atlanta to try to show immigrants that he is their advocate. During his presidency, he made 530 executive moves on immigration—far exceeding the number Trump took. Biden has generally acted in favor of immigrants, with many of his actions supporting inclusivity in American society for them.

Trump’s Previous Policies on Immigration

During his first term, however, Donald Trump took a hard line against Muslims from many countries. He adopted policies that affected families living in America for generations, including ones where their children were members of Congress. His harsh border security measures formed part of broader attempts at curbing illegal migration into the country.

The Current Political Climate

Given the present political climate, where right-wing sentiments are growing not only in America but also across Europe, most notably in the UK, it is highly likely that Trump will adopt an aggressive anti-immigrant stance to rally support from his base of voters. Such an approach could appeal to electorates prioritising national safety over liberal migration policies because they fear these may threaten economic stability.

Biden’s Strategy

Contrastingly, Mr.Biden will seek to win over votes from immigrants by showcasing what he has recently done about this subject. His administration’s commitment to permanently solving many long-standing issues migrants face through executive actions demonstrates their dedication. Therefore, it is expected that Mr. Biden’s plan will highlight positive impacts resulting from his policy decisions, contrasting them with the more restrictive steps taken under President Trump.

As America gears up toward another round of general elections, immigration remains a critical issue. Both Biden and Trump will use their platforms to appeal to different sections of the electorate. While Biden’s campaign strategy seeks inclusivity among supporters from various backgrounds, Trump may focus on reinforcing national security through his border control policies. Therefore, what comes out of this debate could greatly influence public opinion and voter preferences in the next election.
