West Indies Triumph: West Indies got off to a prevailing start in the T20 World Cup, defeating Papua New Guinea.
In the T20 World Cup 2024, West Indies defeated Papua New Guinea by way of five wickets in an interesting shape thanks to the incredible performances of Ruston Chase and Andre Russell.

In the fit achieved at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, West Indies, the co-hosts of the occasion won the toss and determined to bowl first.

When Papua New Guinea started the innings, initially, two players had returned to the pavilion for seven runs, but Sesay Bau scored a half-century and managed the team.
Captain Asadwala scored 21 runs off 22 balls, but before he could prove any more effective. Alzari Joseph ended his innings while Hari Hari continued with just two runs.

Sise Bau and Charles Amini shared a partnership of 44 runs, thanks to Kaplan Duriga’s aggressive innings in the final overs. The Papua New Guinea team could score 136 runs for eight wickets in the stipulated overs.

Sesay Bau scored 136 runs for the loss of 8 wickets, while Duriga played an unbeaten innings of 27 runs off 18 balls.

On behalf of West Indies, Andre Russell took two for 19 runs while Joseph also took wickets.
Chasing the target, Janssens-Charles was dismissed on the first ball. After which Nicholas Pooran and Brendan King put on a 53-run partnership.

The West Indies seemed set for an easy win, but then they started losing wickets rapidly.

After Brendan King’s 34, Puran was also dismissed for 27 runs. But West Indies suffered a real blow when captain Rowman Powell as well as Sherfin Rutherford walked.
When Sherfin Rutherford was out in the 16th over, West Indies needed 41 runs from 4 overs to win. Still, here, the inexperience of the visiting team stood in the way of their victory.

Andre Russell and Ruston Chase put on a remarkable batting show and took the target in the subsequent three overs. They were taking their crew to a 5-wicket victory to start the occasion off to a flying start.

Ruston Chase hit two sixes and four fours, scoring 42 runs off 27 balls, earning Person of the Match. West Indies Triumph.
Asadwala scored a century in shape and also took two wickets; however, his performance was useless.
