United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has commended Turkmenistan’s for giving stateless people citizenship and for having a fair policy in global politics.
He said Turkmenistan is very influential in international affairs, especially when working with the United Nations. The Secretary-General made these statements during a meeting with President Serdar Berdimuhamedow in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.
The UN office was opened in the capital to handle diplomacy concerning conflict prevention in Central Asia (Guterres, 2021). The UN team has a new home in this country after the president gave them an office.
Regional Problems and Potentials

The Secretary-General emphasized the escalating climate crisis in Turkmenistan’s similar to other Central Asian countries (Guterres, 2021). In this regard, decisive actions against global warming that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions rapidly and earnestly are needed.
Furthermore, Turkmenistan has significantly advanced in achieving several sustainable development goals. The UN office in Turkmenistan collaborates with the government on identifying gaps and addressing concerns regarding this matter (Bem et al., 2020).
Giving equal treatment to citizens’ economic, social, political, cultural, and civil rights will improve sustainability. And inclusive development (Derbentseva & Khamidovna, 2019). Henceforth, the Secretary-General encouraged working with the United Nations Human Rights Office.
