Matthew Perry’s Death: Ketamine Crisis in Hollywood

On October 28, 2023, the famous actor of Friends TV show, Matthew Perry, died in his hot tub in his backyard and overlooked Santa Monica Mountains. He said to anyone present, “Get me a big one”, but he meant a large quantity of Ketamine. That was the third dose for him that day. In the evening of the same day, Perry was discovered lying face down in the Jacuzzi while paramedics pronounced him dead on the spot. The postmortem result revealed ketamine toxicity as his cause of death.

The Ketamine Problem in Hollywood is Getting Worse Matthew

Court documents have shown that there is an issue with Hollywood celebrities abusing Ketamine after Perry’s demise. First used as an anaesthetic, Ketamine has been increasingly seen as an effective off-label treatment for depression and anxiety. Nonetheless, its abuse has contributed to a thriving black market and easy availability. Referring to how easy it is to obtain Ketamine legally, Dr David Mahjoubi, who serves as the president of the American Board of Ketamine Physicians, stated, “I have my celebrity clients coming for prescriptions from me; it’s super easy, not hard at all”.

Exposing a Criminal Network Matthew

An investigation into Perry’s death exposed a wide network of underground drug suppliers moving Ketamine around Los Angeles. According to federal court records, Perry went from monitored ketamine therapy for depression and anxiety at one clinic to getting the drug from “unprincipled physicians” and street vendors. This change marked the beginning of his descent into drug addiction.

A Lengthy Battle with Substance Abuse

Perry had always been open about his battle with addiction, which began many years before, even while he was on “Friends.” In his memoir book titled Friends, Lovers and The Big Terrible Thing he narrated how long fight against substance abuse though claiming that he became sober after his addiction. One informant told detectives that Perry was clean for 19 months prior to his death. However, Perry’s history of drug use made him especially susceptible to becoming addicted to Ketamine.

The Last Days Plus A Fatal Fixation

For several months leading up to his demise, Perry’s dependence on Ketamine skyrocketed. In the course of an investigation by federal authorities, it emerged that he purchased various vials of Ketamine valued at thousands of dollars. During the three days just before he died, six times daily did his assistant inject him with doses of Ketamine.
