Latif Khosa Warns Maulana: Supporting Govt is Sinking Ship

During a recent media interview, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI leader and sitting Member of the National Assembly Latif Khosa issued a warning Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam JUI-F Khosa elaborated, cautioning that there was a risk of downfall for the ones who supported the ‘drowning vessel’ of a government he warned about. It was reiterated that Rahman must refrain from what he termed ‘political harakiri’ to defend another limping government.

Government No Standing Offers

Khosa explains that Rehman is too ambitious to consider that the government possesses any trump card that could be offered to him. Unless, according to him, he supports the government at all, there is nothing of value for the government to provide Rehman, which draws attention to such arguments. Khosa’s comments hint that aligning himself with the government on this issue is not at all going to be favourable to Rehman’s political grounds.

Concerns Over Military Trials

In his remarks, Khosa also addressed the issue of military trials, stating that such policies should not be meted out to any civilian, even to the founder of PTI. He did not support such attempts for the government if it wanted to do them, further labelling them unnecessary and illegitimate. Khosa’s statements likewise underline the persistent geopolitical challenges within Pakistan regarding legal and judicial systems.

Recent High-Level Meetings

On the previous day, Maulana Fazlur Rehman visited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at his residence to discuss the country’s current overall and political status. This visit aimed to address the critical aspects of politics and resolve the urgent concerns.

On the other hand, former President Asif Ali Zardari also had a relatively long and substantive political discussion with Rehman at his home in the presence of Federal Minister of Interior Mohsin Naqvi. People familiar with it had said the objective was to reconcile the JUI-F and the government. Some quarters interpreted Naqvi’s presence at the meeting, sitting beside Zardari, as an indication of the regime’s seriousness in addressing JUI-F concerns.

Implications for International Affairs

The imagery surrounding Maulana Fazlur Rehman with officials of different ranks indicates a changing trend in Pakistan’s politics. The interaction further indicates a probable warming up of JUI-F with the ruling coalition as the government seeks to appease the party and win its backing.

We will observe how the figures and parties evolve along with their relations as events unfold. The brawls and balancing acts among the state and religious parties in Pakistan also reflect the power negotiations and realignment that continue within the country’s political structure.
