Jigra Flops Audiences Reject Alia Bhatt’s Film

Mumbai: Alia Bhatt’s production Jigra, which was so much anticipated before its release, has proven to be a disaster at the box office.  Not only did the film see an abysmal drop in its Sunday collections, considered the starting point of a film’s decline, but the situation worsened on Monday.  Trade experts have sought to explain the reason for the movie’s commercial failure by saying the movie failed to move or entertain the viewers and had quite a poor storyline and content, which are some of the significant reasons.

Disappointment Over Poor Reviews

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt became the producer of the movie Jigra, for which even filmmaker Karan Johar stepped in as a producer.  Looking at the popularity of Bhatt and Johar’s past projects, expectations were immensely high for the film.  However, Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that no matter how big the stars are in the industry, they cannot ensure a film’s success if it cannot touch people’s hearts.

This is Alia Bhatt’s home production, and Karan Johar is also a producer, so expectations were relatively high.  The reason a film fails to find acceptance in the audience is solely dependent on the content.  There were no hurdles for this film; it was promoted enough and came out in December. Even after all that, the movie could not pull audiences to the theatres,” Adarsh said.

Audience Preferences Are There But Are Changing

Vishik Chauhan, the owner of Rupbani Cinema at Purnia Bihar, also had similar feelings, especially concerning the movie’s failure. He mentioned that Jigra did not bring anything fresh or exciting to make the audience leave their homes and go to the theatres. To him, the title and the concept were disconnected from what is in the market today.

“Jigra was an unnecessary film for the Theaters. It is a  type of movie that these producers love for the audience to watch, but viewers do not want to watch such movies,” said Chauhan.

He also talked about the evolving nature of the audience’s appetite for content. Alia Bhatt’s buzz, the film didn’t resonate with the box office audience.  I  had the components that fitted in the COVID times, but now the audience is different. With the advent of OTT, people can access many things from the comfort of their homes, and movies like Jigra are already there.”

The Effect of OTT Services

The rise of Over-the-Top (OTT) services has dramatically changed how and what audiences watch. Many movies have been successful at the box office in f in forformerthey. This change is about an audience that is more selective and less inclined to go to the theatre to watch any film instead.  Instead, they s.  Instead, exciting narratives entice them to enter a cinema.

Direction and Content: Recipe for Fiasco?

Aside from destructive narratives, analysts are also convinced that the film suffered from its direction.  Adarshhaves highlighted that the process of picking the director possibly contributed to sports action Jigra’s failure.

“People wanted to see masala films, and if you disregard their demands, then the film is bound to bomb,” Adarsh elaborated.  He proposed that the work’s creative scope was too fringed to ensure mass appeal, which led to the void.

Need to Learn from the Failure of Jigra

Bollywood producers and directors should consider Jigra’s failure.  It highlights the need to keep pace with the changing dynamics of the audience and the impact of OTT platforms. It’s relevant to note that star power and big-budget advertising initially pull the crowd.  However, these are not guarantees of success if the substance and treatment do not meet the viewers’ expectations.
