IMF Urges Pakistan to Boost Anti-Corruption Measures

The International Monetary Fund IMF Urges Pakistan has made several proposals to the Government of Pakistan. Asking it to be more aggressive in its fight against corruption. These concerns several problems relating to the national system of governance. Particularly the abuse of national resources and corruption handled by politicians. As well as the possible improvement of accountability of registered institutions.

IMF’s Concern about Combatting Corruption

For the past few years, the IMF has earned the discontent of the authorities in Pakistan by demanding stricter measures against corruption. However, this time, the report stresses more about doing more on the part of Pakistan to address the problem. There is no system to check and prevent corruption in Pakistan’s political governance. Concentration is given to corruption cases rather than the system. Investigating bodies, such as the IMF’s former missions, voiced them as barriers to effectively  . Addressing corruption in the country due to blatant political interference.

Recommendations for NAB Improvement IMF Urges Pakistan

On a single note, the IMF proposes that Mhr NAB’s dependence on other institutions be accurate and practical. As it has specific legislative empowerment, it has legislative empowerment. The report recommends removing NAB from the political sphere. Given recent judgments by Pakistan’s Supreme Court. To ensure its operation remains self-governing. This approach encourages creativity within the agency. As its actions will be free from external influence.

Some suggested that making NAB more effective is crucial to empowering Pakistan. The country’s current interventionist system requires reform, as existing structures are inadequate to address the scale of wrongdoing.

The IMF has set a deadline for the government to develop a plan to eliminate the root causes of embezzlement in public institutions by June 2025.

Enhancing Transparency In Public Institutions IMF Urges Pakistan

Only last year at the Fall Meetings did the Fund reach a largely positive assessment of the newly promulgated Law and its operational provisions. The most helpful assessment here is that the requirement for the government to do periodic reporting on their progress in upholding the principle of transparency provides a measure of evaluation.

Digitizing Their Asset Declaration IMF Urges Pakistan

The International Monetary Fund has made other recommendations, including banning current members of legislative bodies from occupying positions in local executive bodies, including the posts of mayors and heads of provincial administrations. Such insistence will make it possible for public institutions to monitor the growth in the health of public officers for illegal enrichment. There was a proposal to digitize the FBR, which the IMF proposed to monetize all assets held by the officials from determining the facilities availed against these income declarations.
