Three senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Hammad Azhar, have resigned from their positions within the party. Hammad Azhar, serving as the President of PTI Punjab, has relinquished his charge.
Hammad Azhar Statement on Resignation
Hammad Azhar explained his decision, stating that he no longer had access to PTI’s founder. Which made it difficult for him to carry out his responsibilities effectively. He emphasized that he did not hold a press conference nor make any deals related to his resignation. “My movement is severely restricted. And I cannot go to Adiala [Jail],” he added. Azhar expressed dissatisfaction with many decisions made within the Punjab chapter of the party. Noting that he was neither consulted nor agreed with these decisions. He criticized that many of these decisions were based on lobbying rather than merit. And that limited and one-sided information was provided to the party’s founder.
Azhar specifically pointed out the ongoing lobbying to replace Chaudhry Asghar as the President of PTI Lahore. He remarked, “Unfortunately, today, they succeeded in their efforts. His only fault was that he spent two months in prison.” Azhar further mentioned that the party’s leadership agreed with him that many of these decisions resulted from limited access to the party’s founder. “Under these circumstances, I can’t uphold merit while serving as the President of Punjab,” Azhar stated, announcing his decision to step down. However, he assured that he would continue to serveserving as a loyal PTI. Work General Secretary’s Response.
In response to Azhar’s resignation, PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub refused to accept it. He praised Hammad Azhar for tirelessly working for the party and its founder, stating, “We do not accept your resignation.”
Resignation of PTI Lahore Leaders
In addition to Hammad Azhar, PTI Lahore President Chaudhry Asghar Gujjar, and PTI Lahore General Secretary Hafiz Zeeshan Rashid, he resigned from their respective positions. Chaudhry Asghar thanked the party workers for their support during the struggle for the party founder’s release. He added, “I hope the incoming President will perform even better in this struggle, and all my resources will be at his disposal.”
