Astronomers and stargazers around the world are looking forward to 2024 because of a cosmic happening. The first Super Blue Moon of the year will be visible on August 19 during the nighttime. It is a unique event that merges two different lunar activities into one spectacular show.
Super Blue Moon is an uncommon celestial occurrence in which a Super Moon and a Blue Moon coincide. Although neither happens frequently by itself, when they come together, they create something enchanting.
The moon moves closer to us and further away from us at specific points during its orbit. It can appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than when it is at its farthest (apogee) location when it is in its “Super” phase, known as perigee. Therefore these supermoons appear much larger and shinier than usual due to their increased size and brightness.
On the other hand, a Blue Moon refers not to color but instead to frequency: It describes when four full moons occur within one season (usually three appear); “blue” here acts more as an idiom for rareness or infrequency. Though still scarce—only happening once every two or three years—it happens more often than supermoons do.
When both happen concurrently, you get a Super Blue Moon – which looks amazing through telescopes and binoculars alike!
Timing/Visibility for 2024’s Super Moon
According to SUPARCO (Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), on August 19th at exactly 11:26 PM PKT time zone Pakistan will witness this phenomenon called ‘super blue moon’. But this does not mean only people living in Pakistan can see it; being a global event anyone anywhere across the planet Earth shall able to experience this unique moment with their own eyes. So don’t miss out because chances like these come once in a lifetime…or should I say once every hundred years?
SUPARCO has announced that this year’s super blue moon is the third out of four full moons happening during one season. The previous two blue moons were also special but the one falling on August 19th is expected to be the biggest of them all due to the timing and conditions under which it will appear.
For those who want to keep watching the skies, SUPARCO says there will be the next three supermoons visible on September 18th, October 17th & November 15th respectively however this month stands as a highlight since the next time we can see another supermoon won’t happen till January 2037, according NASA.
Super Blue Moon Rarity
The rarity only makes people want more of it! A blue moon itself isn’t very common so when you add in the fact that it’s the closest full moon to Earth, then we have something even rarer. These events are said to occur about once every decade or two so this year is special
Significance and Influence Moon
It is not only a visual feast but also of great scientific significance. Because of the increased brightness and sharpness, this event allows scientists to examine the surface of the moon more closely. Moreover, it provides researchers with an opportunity to involve the public in astronomy thus cultivating their deep understanding of the beauty present in our universe.
To the general population, a super blue moon is a time for reflection on natural wonders. It serves as a demonstration that there are complex systems at work within our solar system and also reveals how rarely we get chances like these.
summary
On 19th August 2024, we will witness a once-in-a-decade Super Blue Moon which combines features of both Super Moon and Blue Moon into one phenomenon. While illuminating Earth with its enlarged size lit by brighter light this time gives people all around the globe an amazing chance to feel united with space. For any person who loves looking up into the sky either a professional astronomer or amateur observer, this event should not pass unnoticed.
