26 Dead, Many Missing in Senegal Migrant Boat Tragedy

 

In January 2023, authorities recovered the bodies of at least 26 people who were on board a boat that sank near the coast of Senegal, with several others still missing. The Boat Tragedy, which had departed from the city of Mbour, located about 80 km from Senegal’s capital, was reported to have been carrying over 100 people when it sank. This took place just 4 kilometers from where the boat had taken off from.

Most of the migrants who were on board the boat were youths who were in search of better prospects and were willing to use the unlawful route of entering the Spain.
