World Culture Festival Classical Dance Enchants All

Karachi: On the running Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi organized, the most awaited, 38 days of World Culture Festival Karachi 2024 is engaging people in some laudable and unique cultural and artistic performances. The growth of this recently started festival is inclusive of dance, music, and art from around the world, placing the performing artists and audience in the centre of cultural exchange. It is expected to run until the 2nd of November, 2024 for the festival manages to provide every single day with an activity whose purpose is to encourage intercultural appreciation and understanding.

On the 16th day of the festival, classical dance took centre stage with the theme “The Sound of Tinkling Bells,” dedicated entirely to this art form. Titled “An Evening of Classical Dance,” the event took place at Auditorium One of the Arts Council, attracting numerous passionate dance enthusiasts from both the country and abroad. The attendance of the Russian consulate provoked more diplomatic, and therefore, international motives in the festivities.

The star of the show was none other than the renowned dancer and activist, Sheema Kermani, celebrated for her numerous accomplishments and beloved by all. She took to the stage to quote a poem by the poetess Fehmida Riaz who penned ‘Aao Hum Watno Raqs Karo’ on the first line of the poem. The performance projected images of struggle and liberation through powerful movements, showcasing the strength and vitality of Africans in society.

The performance provided a sneak peek into the Mughal era, showcasing classical dance forms that depicted this rich history. The intricate footwork, expressive hand movements, and captivating facial expressions that characterized Mughal court dances illustrated dance as a vital historical and cultural medium. These dances aimed to tell stories and preserve culture and heritage, captivating the audience.

As night fell, Sheema Kermani and the rest of her company kept. The audience’s rapt attention with a string of splendid spectacles.
