World Cultural Festival Taleem-e-Balghan 2.0 Reperformed

Karachi – The members of the Arts Council of Pakistan continued celebrating the World Cultural Festival on the 15th day of its commencement in Karachi. The rituals of that day included two important occurrences: a workshop organized by the Spanish group and the much-awaited re-presentation of the popular theatre production named “Taleem-e-Balghan 2.0.” This cultural event which has been grabbing people’s attention since the beginning has continued to include various other artistic displays from other cultures emphasizing the essence of cultural interaction.

Spanish Group Hosts a Workshop

One of the memorable events of that day was the workshop organized by the Spanish group. The attendees ranged from artists to students and culturally sensitized individuals. The workshop provided means to improve the art skills and also present the great Spanish culture to the participants actively. Simply put, those trapped in that activity developed a multi-faceted view of art. From debates on Spanish contemporary art to practical teaching of art at its best. The entire program created a context in which cultural exchange could occur and concepts of art and practice learned worldwide could be shared.

The presence of the Spanish group at the fest illustrates more theosophical relationships of civilizations within the said activity. Their workshop made it possible for Pakistan artists to gather other country’s perspectives, think outside the box, and learn new ways of doing art. This combination of regional and international art has been one of the major strengths of the festival, whose primary purpose is to unite the diversified cultures of the world under one shed.

Re-Presentation Of “Taleem-e-Balghan 2.0”

As a response to public requests, once again during the festival, the play ‘Taleem-e-Balghan 2.0’ was hosted. Like other audience members at the festival, the adaptation of an Urdu classic play such as “Taleem-e-Balghan 2.0” is meant for socially ‘better-minded’ people and therefore copyright friendly was well enjoyed. The plot of the performance by the Russians was an outrage against ‘adult education. It has been successfully revised to suit the modern generation.

The performance was not just comical nor tangential storyline to a happy ending, since it portrayed the social problems that engage society even today. Whether it was education or social injustice, the play was a comical relief whilst touching on critical issues. The feedback from the audience suggested that such performances offer food for thought and encourage self-examination and change, which makes a change in society.

Audience Feedback and Social Theatre: The Attractive Force of Social Theatre.

People who attended the performance had only good things to say about it, pointing out that its humor and relatable dramatization perfectly served the purpose of social issues addressing. In the words of one of the participants “Plays like this help me see the problems which I usually close eye to in my everyday life. The problems were so bad, but the lift of the comedy made them more acceptable and made people apologetic about the issues in a good way.”

The effectiveness of theatre with social purpose has been a development. Many of the audience at the festival have been discussing this for a while. But performance art in the mode of the “Taleem-e-Balghan 2.0” and others are not just for fun. But for addressing various social issues. In contrast, the festival has evolved into an outlet. Where the use of art is not limited to mere fun but as an agent of transformation.

Director’s Vision: A Play for the Times

Farhan Ahmed said that it is important to get into the undertones of “Taleem-e-Balghan” in a manner that has these new audiences. He explained, “It is sheer ‘Old wine in a new bottle’ of the old classic revival of a play. But perhaps this MRH is relevant in the contemporary sociopolitical context. We wanted to do the Crowdsourcing of Contemporary Issues in the US and make sure that. The issues are addressed and are staged in a real-life situation and talked about in very interesting and stimulating ways.”

It looks like Farhan Ahmed’s strategy of keeping. The play also continues to gain more crowds, as it is still paying off in that respect. He has been successful in getting a lot of people at the festival for theater. By making them understand that there is humor with a purpose. As a result, she was able to draw a battalion of young eager students and theater lovers. Who frequents the festival?
