On the last day of the working week, Wise, a global technology company specializing in digital banking, said it had been hacked, and personal information about its clients might have been compromised following a cyber attack on Evolve Bank and Trust.
Wise Unclear Fallout from Evolve Data Breach
The news highlights that the fallout from the Evolve data breach on third-party companies—and their customers and users—is still unclear, and it seems to include unknown companies and startups.

Wise wrote in a statement published on its official website that the company worked with Evolve from 2020 until 2023 “to “provide USD account details.” Gi” en that Evolve was breached recently, “som” Wise customers information may have been involved.”

Data Shared with Evolve
Wise said it shared information about U.S. customers with Evolve, including names, addresses, dates of birth, contact details, and Social Security numbers or Employer Identification Numbers. For non-U.S. customers, Wise also shared “ano” her identity document number.

TOPCLAPS reached out for comment, asking whether Evolve knows how many partner companies—old and current—and end users have been affected by the breach. When asked whether Evolve had already contacted them, Evolve spokesperson Eric Helvie declined to comment and referred to the company’s financial statement on its website.
Wise Details of the Evolve Data Breach
As of this writing, the statement says Evolve “con” continues to work around. The clock to respond to the recent cybersecurity incident” and” promises to provide further updates. According to the organization, in May of this year, the LockBit cybercrime syndicate, known as ransomware, executed an attack on their system. This occurred when one employee clicked a harmful URL.

“The”e is no evidence that the criminals accessed customer funds. Still, it appears they accessed and downloaded customer information from our databases and a file share during February and May,” the” statement read. “The” threat actor also encrypted some data within our environment. However, we have backups available and experienced limited data loss and impact on our operations.”

So far, Affirm, EarnIn, Marqeta, Melio, and Mercury—all Evolve partners—have acknowledged investigating. The Evolve breach impacted their customers. On Monday, fintech reporter Jason Mikula shared on X notification. That Branch, another Evolve partner, had sent to a customer.
