The UN is hosting the third Doha Talks on Afghanistan today. Held in Doha, Qatar, these discussions will feature a Pakistani delegation.
Pakistani Representation UN
Diplomatic sources have stated that Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Asif Durrani and Ahmad Naseem Waraich, will represent Pakistan at this year’s conference. The Afghan interim government will formally participate in the Doha Talks and Conference this time.
Background and Participation UN
During the last round of Doha Talks, the Afghan Taliban interim government refused to take part because it had included Afghan women and civil society representatives. But for the first time, special representatives from around the world are going to sit face-to-face with Afghan Taliban leaders. After the end of the Doha talks on 2nd July, a discussion between representatives of Afghan civil society and women with a special representative on Afghanistan will occur.
Key Discussion Points
The national community is not expected to make progress in recognizing Afghanistan’s interim government. The discussions will cover some major topics, including:
Security Situation in Afghanistan: Dealing with ongoing security challenges and finding ways to beautify nearby stability.
Counter-Narcotics Efforts: Strategies for fighting drug trafficking and discouraging poppy cultivation.
Environmental Changes: Discuss ecological modifications’ impact on Afghanistan and possible mitigation techniques.
Public Health Conditions: Enhancing healthcare systems and addressing public health issues in Afghanistan.
International Participation
Delegates from 25 countries, including diplomats and special representatives, are expected to attend these two-day talks. The host United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and his special representative will also participate.
