Using rocket launchers and heavy weaponry, the militants launched an audacious attack late at night on a joint police and Frontier Corps (FC) checkpoint in Jamrud’s bustling Taku Bazaar area of Khyber District. Two young men serving on the security frontlines of the region were killed in this focused assault.
The attackers, whose identities are unknown, reportedly fired a salvo of rockets and bullets, catching the security personnel off guard at the checkpost. The defenders suffered immediate losses due to the intensity of the onslaught; two personnel from the police and FC received critical injuries. They rushed them to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.
Security forces responded with swift coordination after being ambushed. Reinforcements rapidly reached the spot, sealing it immediately while conducting extensive search operations to hunt down fleeing militants. The aim was simple: To nab those behind this heinous terror and bring them to justice besides reinstating peace & order in the area.
The post-event scenario witnessed strengthened security measures around Jamrud. Law enforcement agencies established additional checkposts and intensified patrolling to thwart any untoward incident. The sudden upsurge in violence terrified locals, but they found comfort in the visible determination of law enforcement agencies to not only protect but also secure their lives.
This is not an isolated event within this region, as just a few days ago, another brave policeman successfully foiled militants. Attempt to attack a police post in Mayaganu using timely response tactics, which proved effective, too. Under cover of darkness, security forces targeted armed assailants. The Mayaganu police posts with RPGs & small arms fire only to meet. Their match among resolute local cops who fought back gallantly. Thus, they retreat after encountering resistance.
District Police Officer Bajaur Sajjad Ahmad hailed his officers’ bravery and professionalism during both incidents. He said they worked hard, knowing very well that it would expose them while protecting the community. DPO Bajaur also rewarded these deserving cops with financial assistance, among other things. Thus showing his department’s support for those in the line of duty.
Authorities continue investigating these attacks while keeping watch due to ongoing threats from militants operating within the region. Security forces have stepped up operations based on intelligence to preempt further attempts to destabilize the area.
