Mumbai: Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2 achieved an unprecedented feat in its opening week by entering the esteemed ₹400 crore club. The film is also the fastest Bollywood movie ever to surpass this mark on a global scale.
Box Office Smash
Stree 2 minted ₹342 crore from the Indian market alone, plus another ₹59 crore in foreign countries, taking its worldwide collection to an amazing ₹401 crore within seven days of release, according to Indian media. The producers, Maddock Films, had taken to Instagram to express their joy and gratitude. “What a fantastic week! Thank you for all your love,” they posted.
Surpassing Records
This year’s Stree 2 broke many previous records set by other fastest movies, which reached ₹400 crores globally. Jawan took 11 days, whereas Animal did it in the same time frame. Pathaan and Gadar 2 managed to enter this club within 12 days of their release, while Baahubali took 15 days, and KGF needed 23 days so that their Hindi versions could earn more than rupees four hundred crores.
Global Success
The supernatural comedy-horror film resonated with audiences at home and abroad, enabling it to achieve such heights within just one week. This achievement shows that Bollywood movies are gaining popularity worldwide like never before.
Why Was It Successful?
There was already a large fan base because it followed the successful Stree. Secondly, what makes this movie different from others made here is mixing fun with nightmares, something which has not yet been tried out much in Indian cinemas. Thirdly, the chemistry between Shraddha Kapoor (who played the lead role) and Rajkummar Rao who reprised his character too) must have attracted fans also … And lastly but most importantly, the marketing campaign did a great job creating buzz among people who ensured that the halls remained packed, throughout the week.
What Next?
With records tumbling down left, right, and centre, there’s no telling how far these box office numbers will go. If this pace continues, we might see some more broken soon enough! Bollywood sequels have found new hope in Stree 2′s success, so let’s wait for them to come up with better plots now, shall we?
