Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again pledged to make Pakistan a digitally advanced country by implementing sweeping reforms in the Information Technology (IT) sector. He said he dreams of providing mobile phones to everyone in the country, installing high-speed Internet in every home, and having all businesses use QR code technology while addressing a four-member delegation of the GSM Association (GSMA) Asia-Pacific, led by Julian Gorman, on Wednesday.
Digital Transformation: A National Priority
The Premier highlighted GSMA’s position in supporting Pakistan’s digitalization pressure. It said that his authorities are operating closer to ensuring common internet access, enhancing virtual infrastructure, promoting e-governance, and providing teenagers with professional training in virtual abilities. He also mentioned that efforts are underway to extend high-speed mobile connectivity to remote areas, ensuring that every part of the US benefits from digitalization.
In another meeting with the Veon Group/Jazz delegation headed by Board Member Sir Brendan Lewis, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was lauded for his vision of transforming Pakistan into a cashless economy. The delegation expressed support for the PM’s agenda on digitalization and discussed possible collaborations to this end.
Development of Balochistan: A Top Priority
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met former Chairman of the Senate & Balochistan Assembly member Sadiq Sanjrani to discuss development & prosperity in Balochistan. He reiterated that the welfare of the Baloch people was among the government’s top priorities. Chagai mineral corridor will be established, which will help fully utilize the province’s abundant minerals. They also plan to build a railway line between Chagai-Gwadar port to transport these resources easily. A grid station shall also be set up at Chaghi to improve the electricity supply.
Afforestation Initiative Against Climate Change
Keeping up with his dedication to the direction of environmental sustainability, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated a nationwide tree plantation campaign aimed at planting more than a hundred million trees throughout the monsoon season. This initiative is part of broader efforts to fight climate alternate, lessen environmental degradation effects, and beautify us of a’s nature beauty us of. The Prime Minister planted a tree at PM House to kick-start the marketing campaign and became briefed about the ongoing afforestation force, which had seen 2.2 billion timber planted till June 2024.
He expressed happiness over the start of the rainy season, calling it a time that brings smiles and relief from the summer heat. He said these afforestation endeavors would result in cleaner air, thus mitigating climate change effects and saving nature for our children’s children.
