Severe Heatwave in Pakistan Causes Power Outages and Crisis

 

Some areas of Pakistan are experiencing a severe heatwave, causing problems and adding to their electricity crisis. Load-shedding is becoming a reality for many, with outages lasting longer than expected and no warning given.

Throughout the country, power can be off between five and 18 hours daily. This has severely disturbed humans’ daily lives, disrupting organizations, hospitals, and houses. Scorching summers characterize this region, with Lahore holding the record as one of the hottest towns. Other places like Dadu, Larkana, Multan, and Islamabad have all seen above 40 degrees Celsius temperatures, worsening heat-related problems among residents.

The unrelenting heat wave has stretched infrastructure to the breaking point and caused more technical faults, especially on transformers used by electricity distribution companies like LESCO. These companies have undertaken emergency repairs due to reports indicating an increase in fires caused by overload. However, failures to promptly fix these complaints continue to hampeworkforce’s efforts, further angering inhabitants.

Rahim Yar Khan gave us a glimpse into what could happen. When this kind of weather persists – five deaths were recorded within just 20 hours! Authorities are blaming their passing away on extreme exposure to high temperatures. Some victims had pre-existing medical conditions alongside substance abuse habits, which exacerbated the situation.
