Astana: Shanghai Cooperation Organization Approves Decisions for Cooperation in Various Sectors Including Economy and Security, Signs Agreement on Environmental Protection
According to a report issued by the Principal Office media wing of the Prime Minister, the Pakistani Delegation was led by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the SCO CHS meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, on the 3rd and 4th of July. The central discussion issues during the Council of Heads of State (CHS) included significant regional and global political, security as well as economic issues, challenges & developments, with almost 20 decisions being approved within different spheres of cooperation.
The SCO summit held in Astana found that member states concentrated on boosting cooperation across numerous areas. The main focus was on promoting economic development and ensuring regional security. As part of its broader vision, these talks aim to promote stability, peace, and prosperity among SCO member states.
In addition to adopting the Astana Declaration, CHS adopted three vital statements: drinking water and sanitation, effective waste management, and principles of good neighbourliness. These statements manifest SCO’s commitment to address pressing matters facing this area, such as environmental sustainability and public health.
At the same time, various projects were endorsed for continued cooperation in the economy and security sectors. One highlight from the summit was an agreement on environmental protection signed by relevant ministers within SCO. This shows how serious member countries are about climate change mitigation efforts and preserving natural resources for future generations.
During his address at the CHS Summit, PM Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s backing for the “Shanghai Spirit” based on mutual trust and respect for shared prosperity and development. He insisted that the problems have a commonality, hence the need for joint efforts to overcome them all. These remarks from the Premier underscored the importance of unity and cooperation in attaining collective developmental goals and well-being.
Additionally, Mr Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, highlighted the country’s strategic location, indicating it was the most suitable trade and transit hub for the SCO region. He said this geographical positioning has excellent opportunities for increased connectivity and economic integration between member states. By exploiting its strategic position, Pakistan could facilitate trade and transit, thus being a catalyst for regional economic progress.
