Saqib Nisar Admits Links with General Faiz, Denies May 9 Ties

Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar confirmed his contact with the former Director-General of ISI, Lieutenant General (R) Faiz Hameed, on Monday but strongly denied any involvement in any wrongdoing, including the events of May 9 or any connection to PTI’s political activities. Speaking from abroad, where he is currently on vacation, Nisar declared, “I swear that I have no connection with May 9, PTI, or its politics.”

Clarification on Relationship with General Faiz

Nisar further elaborated that the allegations against him were baseless and nonsensical. He emphasized, “I have no involvement in any matter concerning General Faiz.” However, he acknowledged that he had a social relationship with the former general, which included attending the wedding of Faiz’s daughter and exchanging pleasantries on different occasions.

Recounting Past Interactions

The former Chief Justice recounted how General Faiz had been extremely considerate towards him and his family during a family trip to the northern areas. He also mentioned that while he was the Chief Justice, General Faiz would occasionally send him “For Eyes Only” messages through his registrar. However, he clarified that these communications were always professional and did not involve unfair or illegal requests.

Refuting Accusations of Political Involvement

Nisar strongly refuted the claims that he was involved in any way with the events of May 9, PTI’s political activities, or the allegations against him on social media. He reiterated, “There is nothing to worry about,” and confirmed that he would return to Pakistan on September 5.

Social Visits to Nisar’s Office

He also recalled that Aitzaz Ahsan faced difficulties reaching his home last year due to the situation around Zaman Park in Lahore; Aitzaz would come to Nisar’s office. Khawaja Tariq Rahim occasionally visited, but Nisar clarified these were purely social interactions.

Speculations and Investigations

On the same day, a report published in The News suggested that authorities were investigating Saqib Nisar and General Faiz. The authorities had confirmed the existence of some contact between the two. However, the nature of these contacts—whether they were purely social or had political or criminal implications—was not disclosed.

Sources mentioned in the report indicated that the authorities had no intentions of detaining Nisar upon his return to Pakistan, contrary to social media speculations. Nonetheless, Nisar appears under scrutiny, with officials claiming to have some material against the former Chief Justice.
