Unconstitutional Internet Slow-Down Saif Slams
This statement by Barrister Saif revolves around the federal government’s deliberate decision to slow down internet connectivity – an act that he termed as violating constitutionality since it was not in line with the public interest. “The so-called thieves of a people’s will took an unlawful step when they slowed down internet access to cause immense hardship to the masses,” he stated. He pointed out that slower internet speeds had affected ordinary users and damaged the economy on a large scale.
Devastation of the Digital and IT Sector Saif Slams
The advisor didn’t stop at the internet slowdown; he extended his criticism to the overall impact on Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. Barrister Saif lamented that the slow internet has severely damaged the country’s digital and IT sectors, which are vital for economic growth and global competitiveness. “The incompetence of this regime has brought our digital and IT sectors to the brink of collapse,” he said. According to him, the current government’s mismanagement has set back progress in these crucial areas, threatening the future of innovation and digital development in Pakistan.
Censorship and Digital Rights Violations
In addition to the internet slowdown, Barrister Saif also condemned the government’s restrictions on social media platforms. He specifically mentioned the “Form 47 group,” accusing them of imposing unlawful bans on social media, further stifling free expression and access to information. “The restrictions on social media by this group are a blatant violation of digital rights,” he asserted. He urged digital rights and human rights organizations to take a stand against these actions, calling for a unified response to protect internet freedom in Pakistan. “It is imperative that digital rights and human rights organizations raise their voices against this firewall, these social media bans, and the ongoing internet slowdown,” he demanded.
