Today, Friday, lawyers across the Punjab are striking against the hike in court fee tickets. The Punjab Bar Council has issued a formal notification. Stating that this strike is a protest against the government’s decision to increase these fees. The council has given the GovernmentGovernment seven days to reverse this decision or face an organized countrywide lawyer’s strike.
A request for the government of PunjabÂ
In its communiqué, the Punjab Bar Council clarified that it used the injunction to force the government to drop increased court fees. If such changes persist within one week, they will transform into national litigation led by advocates nationwide. This action demonstrates unity among legal practitioners. And their commitment to meaningful protests when necessary to show solidarity against fee increments.
The Wider Issues Affecting Lawyers PunjabÂ
The Punjab Bar Council also discussed other issues affecting both bar members and the general public. The council condemned the arrests of lawyers representing political parties and expressed solidarity with them. Further, the commission has cited high electricity bills and soaring living costs as part of what has motivated this current demonstration. Lawyers have been ordered not to appear in any courts today, thus adding impetus to the strike.
Protests Planned by Legal Community
Similarly, according to the Punjab Bar Association, apart from court fee increase strike bulbs, lawyers would hit the streets protesting the arrest of political party lawyers, high electricity bills, and inflation generally. Moreover, discontent with the present socio-economic situation and government policies is also reflected in these additional grievances, which express the council’s broader feelings towards prevailing conditions.
The strike called by PBBC today reflects a profound dissatisfaction among legal professionals due to a recent increase in court fees. Setting an ultimatum towards conducting further protests, however, depicts how critical it is that the government attends to these concerns immediately because this issue highlights how influential legal practitioners can be when addressing both personal needs like inflation. Or unfair regulations and so on and so forth.
