The Punjab government began the Chief Minister Roshan Gharana Program to provide free solar systems to 50,000 families across the province as part of its commitment towards viable energy options.

Provincial authorities have agreed to hand out free solar panels to homes entitled to them. This initiative is aimed at households consuming as much as one hundred energy gadgets per month. Under this initiative, the Punjab Government could be charged for all fees, including procurement and installation of solar structures, which amounts to a total assignment fee of 10 billion rupees.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Punjab Solar Panel Scheme:
- Monthly family strength consumption should not exceed 100 devices.
- A property owner’s consent or ownership documents are mandatory for installing solar panels.
- Any person involved in electricity theft, meter tampering, or any other illegal activities related to power usage is disqualified from participating in the scheme.
Application Process
SMS Registration:
Interested households can apply by typing their bill reference number and CNIC and sending it through SMS to 8800. Subsequently, they will receive notifications confirming their registration status after initiating the verification process.
Online Application:
Alternatively, applicants may apply online using an exclusive Punjab Information Technology Board platform website. This web portal facilitates convenient registration and allows applicants to track application progress effectively.
Bank of Punjab Branches:
Citizens can also personally submit applications at Bank of Punjab branches throughout cities. Bank staff would help people complete the registration process correctly and give some directions where necessary.
