Power Division: 13 Entities Approved for Privatization

The Federal Cabinet has given the go-ahead to privatize 13 companies under the Power Division. The list of such organizations, according to sources with knowledge of the matter, consists mostly of state-owned electric distribution firms.

Entities Not Included In The Privatization List

Quetta Electric as well as Tribal Electric Supply Companies are not included in this list of companies for privatization. Thus these two will still be controlled by government agencies until further notice.

Privatization Of GENCOs Under the Power Division

The inclusion of Generation Companies (GENCOs) in the power division’s privatization list was also approved by the Federal Cabinet. This is a major move towards opening up more parts of the energy sector including power generation firms to private hands.

National Importance Entities

In addition to that, six organizations Power Holding Limited and CPPA (Central Power Purchasing Agency) were designated as entities with national significance when it comes to their role within Pakistan’s electricity infrastructure which means they should remain under state supervision indefinitely.
