He added that debt damages prospects for tomorrow’s people; hurting today’s individuals should be a top priority. He announced a historic package for Balochistan farmers, converting 28,000 electric tube wells to solar energy for 55 billion rupees, funded 70% by the federal government and 30% by the PM Balochistan government.
Speaking at the solarization agreement signing ceremony and a cabinet meeting, PM Shehbaz stressed that ending the IMF program is challenging but possible. He noted that leveraging national resources could resolve the issue and praised the Finance Minister’s capabilities. He remarked that returning to the IMF in three years would be shameful if no tough decisions were made.
PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the critical role of Baloch of Balochistan Development Men’s overall progress. He committed to expanding Danish schools to the divisional level in Balochistan, stressing the importance of education for youth in the province’s and country’s development. He expressed confidence in the provincial government’s ability to bring prosperity under the Chief Minister’s leadership and praised the Governor’s political experience.
On solarizing agricultural tube wells, PM Shehbaz announced that the government decided to convert 28,000 tube wells to solar power, ending the electricity subsidy chapter and providing cheaper electricity to farmers. This transition, which is promised to be completed in three months, would also eliminate electricity theft. The federal government has allocated 500 billion rupees over ten years for Balochistan’s tube wells to provide affordable electricity and irrigate fields.
He acknowledged the efforts of federal ministers, secretaries, and the Chief Minister of Balochistan in this project. Shehbaz highlighted the annual cost of running one million oil-powered tube wells across Pakistan. Which amounts to 3.5 billion dollars, emphasizing the need for a collaborative business model with provinces to reduce this expense.
The PM also mentioned the federal budget allocation for Danish schools in Balochistan. Noting the province’s vast geographical area requires more resources. He assured the Balochistan government that joint efforts would resolve provincial issues. Emphasizing the collective responsibility to address Balochistan’s deprivation and contribute to its development.
Shehbaz invited disgruntled Baloch leaders to resolve grievances and warned against those working against Balochistan and Pakistan’s interests. He stressed that security is crucial for attracting investment in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Regarding Gwadar, the PM highlighted the closure of the Safe City project. But expressed readiness to develop Gwadar into a significant port more beneficial than the Reko Diq mines. He met with the Governor, Chief Minister of Balochistan, and PML-N parliament members. Urging elected representatives to focus on public welfare and development projects in consultation with provincial leaders.
