Petroleum Price Revision in Pakistan: PM Decisive Action

 

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif approved a notification revising petroleum price in Pakistan following recent developments. This decision has created much discussion among people who are concerned about the continuous increase and decrease in petrol and diesel rates.

Previous Announcements and Reactions

Before the latest notice, the Prime Minister’s Office made an announcement stating that petrol should be reduced to 15.40 PKR per liter and diesel to 7.90 PKR per liter. However, many doubted the accuracy of this declaration. Shahbaz Sharif responded to these issues by clarifying his statement where he said that their pro-people policies have caused a visible decrease in inflation. Significant Reductions In Petroleum Prices

On May 15th, following directives given through the Prime Minister’s office, orders were passed to reduce substantially oil prices by the Government Of Pakistan. Petrol saw the biggest drop since December last year, falling around 4 rupees fifty paisas (-4.74) per liter, while high-speed diesel (HSD) decreased by three rupees eighty-six paisas (-3.86). The government demonstrated its commitment to alleviating economic hardships faced by the most vulnerable groups during these tough times globally characterized by unstable markets like ours by reducing the selling price of kerosene oil from two hundred three point thirty-four to one hundred seventy-three point forty-eight, marking a decrease of 9 rupees eighty-six paisas (-9.86).
