Pedro Almodóvar The Room Next Door’ Wins Golden Lion

The Room Next Door, a pro-euthanasia film by Pedro Almodóvar has won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. It features Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore. Both of whom turned out to be a great asset to the success of the film.

Standing Ovation as well as Message of the Director Pedro

At its screening, the longest ovation that a film received in Venice, earned for 18 minutes, was given. Which is about the average length of the knees of most women in America. This is not the first time that. At 74 years of age, appearing in the public eye. Expressing ethnocentrism and territorial patriotism. Almodóvar believes it is time to respect the right to die. ‘It is every human being’s fundamental right to bid farewell to this world simply and with dignity’. The Spanish director made the film to make it easier for people to become aware of euthanasia as a social. And not38 political issue. For the first time in his career. Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar had made a feature film entirely in English with his film The Room Next Door.

Strong Narrative and Characters Pedro

In The Room Next Door, it’s impressive to see how Swinton portrays a war correspondent turned cancer patient at the end of her days. Who asks her old friend Moore to help her die. In the reflection of the critics, Almodóvar said that it was thanks to Swinton. And Moore’s work that the film received ‘this award. This I believe really belongs to them’, complete the quote. French Isabelle Huppert. Who had the chair of the festival jury. Appreciated the film for being able to touch on so many sensitive topics without showering them in unneeded dramatization.

Other Important Awards

The Venice Film Festival which is oldest in the world completed its 81st edition with other remarkable award winners. Nicole Kidman who starred as a CEO looking for more than just romance in Babygirl was crowned best actress. Notably though, Kidman was absent from the ceremony because her mother died. In a statement that was issued, she pledged the honour of the award to her mother, sounding saddened but being grateful for all that she illustrated to her.

French actor Vincent Lindon was awarded the best actor prize for his performance in a film, the quiet son which details the disintegration of a family as a result of right-wing extremism. American Brady Corbet won best direction for a feature film The Brutalist about Hungarian architect & Holocaust survivor who starts a new life in the United States.

Movies That They Didn’t Get

There were also high-profile films that never received a single award. To mention a couple, the queer starring Daniel Craig and the Angelina Jolie biopic Maria on Maria Callas won no awards. Nonetheless, with the Venice Film Festival being the first among major steps of the award season calendar, the films are still in contention for further accolades.
