Path of Passing in Punjab: PML-N Updates & Key Meeting Today

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are expected to convene a major meeting today to address the ongoing power-sharing issue in Punjab. This assembly is vital in addressing some PPP issues regarding their participation in the provincial government. Especially concerning the Path of Passing in Punjab which has become a critical point in the negotiations between the two parties.

Context of the Meeting

A joint committee meeting was held at the Governor House Punjab at 2 PM on 14th December 2022 when tensions between the two major parties in the country were high. The PPP is a critical partner in the PML-N government. The PPP has complained of neglect and exclusion in the government of Punjab. This was not supposed to be the case with previous arrangements for power-sharing.

This comes just after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif meets with the Chairman of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. During their talks, the issues faced by the PPP were sidelined from the affairs of the provincial administration. Were brought up, which explains why this subsequent meeting was convened.

Who is Expected to Be Part of the Meeting?

Simultaneously with the efforts of the PML-N party, the meeting will also have representatives from the PML-N. PML-N’s lead lobbying team is expected to comprise eminent figures such as Mr Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister of Information, and Malik Ahmad Khan, senior member. Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former Prime Minister, will head the delegation from the PPP. Including Nadeem Afzal Chan, Hassan Murtaza, and Ali Haider Gilani.

Purpose of the Meeting

The main aim of the meeting will be to assess the success/failure of past meetings aimed at power sharing. This involves reviewing the specific objectives of the stakeholder engagements and the responses of the PPP on their satisfaction with the agreements reached for the future coalition. For instance, the PPP has strongly complained against under-representation in the Punjab region by appointments of critical state personnel and in policy formulation and making.

Formulating the timetable for the remaining points of the agreement is also a very important issue for the resolution. Both parties acknowledge that unless this is done, further miscommunication and unhappiness may ensue, which may rub the coalition further.

THE ESSENCE OF COLLABORATION IN A POLITICAL SYSTEM

The PML-N and PPP have been in coalition on the federal and provincial levels. Hence, their cooperation is essential to fostering political stability in the country. Particularly in Punjab, a necessary province in terms of size and political significance. Any deterioration of their union would affect Pakistan’s entire political environment.

Today’s agenda is not limited to a rude carving up of shared power but is directed toward securing and deploying the alliance between PML-N and PPP. Now, as the two parties exchange tables. We hope they will amicably settle their disputes and join hands for the welfare of Punjab and Pakistan. The civil citizen of this meeting is of such nature that can well depict the ffects of prospects of their reassociation. This prescriptive engagement cay is significant in the present political engagements.
