Netanyahu Urges Pressure on Hamas for Ceasefire Solution

Given Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the pressure best suited to cessation of hostilities between the terrorists and Israel must be brought upon Hamas. This is particularly so as it comes at a time when Hamas has completely rejected any proposals for additional points of ceasefire negotiations that would seek to solve the current impasse with the Israelis.

Netanyahu’s opinion relative to the Ceasefire Hamas

Arab media reported that Netanyahu expressed dissatisfaction with criticizing their silence on the proposal. This came after Hamas rejected the latest proposal pushed by the U.S. to resolve the ongoing conflict. This even though Israel has expressed openness to “suggested new phrases” to Hamas, the latter has maintained an inflexible position which is a big hindrance in the way forward.

U.S. attempts to solve the problem Hamas

William Burns Head of the Central Intelligence Agency of USPS Has forwarded a suggestion where he said a few times the U.S. will Present a well-elaborated ceasefire plan. Yet, such diplomatic moves have provoked all criticism because Hamas has lost all faith in negotiations made under a new framework. Hamas states that there is no new proposal regarding that issue and the only waiver of that condition is according to past American suggestions.

In addressing the audience, Netanyahu turned to this resistance, holding Hamas responsible for its procrastination and pretending to negotiate. This persistent unwillingness by Hamas to entertain fresh proposals, according to Netanyahu, makes the situation even more ironic and restricts all developments toward the reconciliation efforts.

Hamas Rejects New Ceasefire Proposals

Hamas’s position was rather more apparent when the delegation met with members of the mediation teams from Qatar and Egypt. The group rather clearly announced that it would agree to a cessation of hostilities, but only under the terms of the initial U.S. plan, and would not consider any new plans. Such a statement has hampered the efforts of Netanyahu who has sought to clamp criticism on Hamas on ingratitude and bad faith.

So, while Hamas’s conditions seem set in stone, Israel keeps looking for other options. The yawning chasm separating both sides has made it nigh impossible for mediators to bring the parties to the bargaining table.

Kidnapping and Hostage Taking Hamas

To make things even more entertaining, Netanyahu claimed that the Hamas fighters were purposely ignoring the circumstances and did not work on the release of Israeli prisoners. He also insisted that even after Israel accepted new proposals in the last negotiations, Hamas not only refused but ‘transformed’ six hostages in Gaza.

These Netanyahu’s accusations come at a time when there is an escalation of the already pitting conflict. For a long time, the issue of hostages has been a thorny issue, as the other party tries to praise the abuse of hostages to shield its faulty conduct.

The Philadelphia Corridor and its Significance Hamas

Other than the conflict with ceasefire which is more or less in the past, one of the central issues towards any formulation in these discussions for Israel is the Philadelphi or Philadelphi corridor, an exceedingly slim productive hinterland situated at the bifurcation of the mailbox of Gaza and MacCoy. This demand, however, leads to severe deadlocks, exacerbating the fragile picture even more.

The Philadelphia Corridor has been a matter of dispute for quite some time. According to Israel, many of the tunnels extending into this area are used by Hamas for illegal weaponry and supplies trafficking. About the current conflict, Israel claims that it has managed to eliminate up to eighty percent of those tunnels, however, Hamas is still stubbornly refusing to make any compromises concerning the control of the corridor.

A Peace process that shows No Signs of Progress Hamas

With the conflict now prolonged to the twelfth month and second week today, it does not look like there is a solution to the stalemate in the foreseeable future. The disagreement between Hamas and Israel on these matters, including the ceasefire, the captives, and the control of the Philadelphia Corridor has insulated the two sides from giving further ground. With each day that goes into the strife, more and more people die, infrastructure goes under, and more suffering is registered particularly in Gaza where the innocent people contest with the evil.

Conclusion

The present conflict between Israel and Hamas has reached a boiling point as both parties refuse to give in to each other. Netanyahu is in favor of more severe actions on Hamas, but the latter has been consistent in opposing any fresh ceasefire propositions, which has culminated in a long impasse with violence. Attempts by the U.S. or other international mediators such as Qatar, Egypt, and anyone else have helped bring about nothing of real change to the situation, which remains highly precarious.
