Lahore: In a shocking revelation, Syed Noor, one of the most established filmmakers in Pakistan, confessed that it was actor Nauman Ijaz’s crucial call that revived Shaan’s Shahid’s seemingly dead end in the film industry.
Recently subscribing to the popular online video platform, Syed Noor narrated the woeful tale of Shaan’s career and how the actress’s fortune was revived while seeming nonchalance to overwhelming apathy and flops and then, what is it, how a brush with nonchalance was resolved – if at all it was.
Shan Shahid’s Career Captured From The Early Years
As a male lead in one of the top-grossing Pakistani movies in history, Shan Shahid was an instant hit in the Lollywood industry. Says Syed Noor about Shaan’s career, “It had very bright beginnings.” The first two movies he acted in were huge successes at the box office turning him into an instant hit. “Immediately Shahid’s two – film – old – respecta soared to big success. Shan made his debut in Lollywood,” recounted Noor.
After these initial successes, offers started pouring in for Shaan. He was the new face of Pakistani cinema, and filmmakers were eager to work with him. “After the impact of these two films, Shaan was inundated with film offers,” Mr. Noor began. It appeared as though the star was on the way to long-term success here.
A Decay in Career Advancement
Although, things did not make for happy reading. As Syed Noor elaborated, this ambition of Shaan’s where he would agree to take up every offer sent his way was to come back to haunt him. Slowly but surely, all the films that he made began to use more of one form. “Shaan was a cross-the-board film actor who took all the accolades but in no time, his films made losses,” Noor Says outlining what at some point was the fall of the actor.
As each of the films bombed, Shaan’s base began to wane. “There was a period where even the staunchest hearts that belonged to the supporter base stopped purchasing tickets to the theaters and instead chose to stay at home,” Noor narrated. It was an awkward time for the actor who had enjoyed the comforts of success for some time as if that success had lost its sheen.
Shaan emigrated to the United States
Realizing that he had more flops than successes, further waste of time was out of the question any longer- and Shaan had opted to leave Pakistan. They reveal that Shaan was on a vacation in America avoiding the monotony of his miserable career. “After a period of frustrating films, it dawned on Shaan Shahid that he needs to leave and go to the US for a while,” Noor explained.
In this course of time, the evolution of the Pakistani cinema was continuing and Syed Noor himself was thinking about new undertakings. It was during this period that the veteran filmmaker commenced writing two film scripts: ‘Sangam’ and ‘Ghoonghat’. It is a different matter altogether that these films were not just run-ofthe-mill or could anybody have imagined that these films would be the greatest comeback givers to Shaan’s career?
Naumaan Ijaz’s harrasement and Shaan’s Casting in Ghoonghat
There was now Noor and his story about the Ghoonghat: a story in which the director cast a kuwaiti rather famous actor Naumaan Ijaz as the main lead of Ghoonghat. “I had originated the project of Ghoonghat and subsequently offered the lead role to Mr. Naumann Ijaz,” says Noor, who on many occasions managed to interview Clay in a low and rhetorical voice. For personal reasons, however, Ijaz delayed this agreement and went to Ghotgahat, which made Noor turn to Shaan.
This decision was not an easy one because both the film’s director. And the funders were opposed to having Shaan play- ‘Shaun has no business being in this film.’ ‘No, there’s no way we are doing that and risking Shaan becoming the lead in this project. The director of Ghoonghat stated. ‘I asked some of them to borrow their money back because. They heard there was a chance of Shaan getting involved,’ Noor outed.
A Gamble That Paid Off
Slippery as they were, Syed Noor did not give in to these objections. And somehow got everyone to agree to give Shaan a shot. Chakkar Ghoonghat also happened to be his first film in which he cast Shaan in the main lead. “I faced a lot of opposition, but this is the only guy who I wanted to cast. It was a risk, but I backed him,” Noor said.
Ghoonghat turned out to be one such point in Shaan’s career. The film, as well as Glenn and the critics, became a huge revenue generator. Shaan’s acting skills are highly praised. “When Ghoonghat was released, it was a great success and Shaan again became the most talked-about person,” Noor stated proudly.
Shaan’s Career Reborn
But after the fight and the success of Ghoonghat, there was a renaissance in Shaan’s career. Within no time he was seen donning the role of the hero again in Sangam. A film that further substantiated his resurrection. “Shaan was critically appreciated for his performance in Ghoonghat and later cast in the lead role in Sangam,” Noor concluded.
