National Assembly Restructuring 220 Posts to be Cut

 

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq announced that the National Assembly Secretariat is going to undergo a major restructuring, which will result in the elimination of 220 posts. This decision is expected to save around one billion rupees annually for the national exchequer and aims to improve operational efficiency. And cut unnecessary spending within the Secretariat.

Phased Implementation

The restructuring process will be carried out in three phases. The first phase will involve cutting 90 redundant positions. In phase two, the restructuring will remove an additional 130 positions, saving approximately Rs560 million annually. Phase three will introduce administrative reforms. Expected to yield additional savings of Rs400m each year. Thus, this approach allows time for a smooth transition without causing much disturbance while achieving significant cost savings.

Approval and Oversight

The Finance Committee meeting, chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, approved these restructuring decisions. This approval is significant as it marks an important stage in implementing changes according to efficiency and financial prudence objectives.

Formation of Sub-Committee

A subcommittee will ensure that legal requirements are met during the reorganization process. It will review the National Assembly Employees Act 2018 and the Civil Servants Act 1973, making necessary amendments to harmonize both acts. And make them effective in meeting the’s needs consistently throughout their provisions . It plays vital role in legally grounding operational soundness into various stages of implementation regarding this exercise.

Digitization of Secretariat

Apart from staff adjustments, digitizing the National Assembly Secretariat was also given a green signal during the same meeting. This initiative intends to replace traditional paper-based systems with modern digital technologies for efficient service delivery at NAS itself or even beyond its boundaries if the need arises. By creating a paperless environment, NAS aims to improve efficiency levels while cutting administrative costs, thus leading to overall productivity growth. It involves upgrading IT infrastructure, introducing digital record-keeping systems, and training staff on how best to use new technologyhers.
