May 9 Cases JIT Interrogates Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Jail

An 8-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT), led by SP Usman and including Inspector Alam and ASI Ayub, interrogated the PTI Vice Chairman for two hours regarding the May 9 Cases.

Sources revealed that after completing the second round of their investigation, the JIT members returned to Lahore.

Meanwhile, Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq has requested an in-depth record from the Assistant Attorney General (AAG) on all instances filed in opposition to Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s daughter, Meher Bano Qureshi, along with her lawyer. Barrister Taimur Malik informed the courtroom that they’re watching for reports from numerous companies. Noting that a record from Islamabad Police has been acquired.

When the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court inquired about the number of cases. It was reported that 17 cases were registered against the former Foreign Minister in Islamabad and 38 in Punjab.

The AAG informed the court that there are no cases against Qureshi in Sindh, Balochistan, or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. When the court asked if there were any cases in institutions other than the police. The AAG responded that a report would be presented on this issue.

Chief Justice expressed astonishment at the large number of cases. Stating that while two or three instances are understandable, having 38 cases and 17 just in Islamabad is excessive. He questioned, “How big is Islamabad?”

Barrister Malik informed the court that Shah Mahmood Qureshi turned in in Karachi on May 9. Subsequently, the courtroom adjourned the hearing till next week.

PTI Challenges FIA Notice Over ‘1971 Tweet’
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the notices issued by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to its leadership over an arguable post from former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s authentic account.

FIA Notices PTI Over Imran’s X Account

The FIA has issued notices to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Secretary General Omar Ayub, and spokesperson Rauf Hassan stating that an inquiry has been initiated regarding the ‘misuse’ of Imran Khan’s verified X account, which shared ‘provocative material’ against state institutions.

Sub-Inspector Muhammad Muneeb Zafar summoned the three PTI leaders to appear personally at the FIA Cyber Crime Reporting Center on Wednesday to record their statements.

The notice warned, “If you do not appear. We will initiate action against you under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which stipulates a month’s imprisonment for willful non-compliance.”

The FIA’s notice indicated that the post could “cause fear and alarm among the public and incite someone to commit an offense against the state or state institutions.”

On May 26, Imran Khan’s official X account shared a statement attributed to him urging the nation to “study the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report and understand who the real traitors were: General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

PTI’s Request
The former ruling party has argued that the social media post aimed to “encourage national dialogue. And address the country’s ongoing crisis.

The petition stated that the Deputy Director of FIA was the complainant in this matter. Accusing Imran Khan and others of inciting armed forces personnel to rebellion.

The plea requested the court to nullify the notices and restrain the FIA from harassing PTI leadership.

Last week, an FIA team visited Adiala Jail to interrogate the imprisoned PTI founder over the social media post. However, sources reported that the former Prime Minister refused to meet the investigators. They were insisting that he would only do so in the presence of his lawyer.
