Lahore: The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, accentuated the significance of technology in improving the monitoring and evaluation of government departments. This instruction was given in a meeting with Brigadier (R) Babar Alauddin, appointed chairperson of the Chief Minister’s Directorate of Evaluation, Feedback, Inspection, and Monitoring.
The meeting revolved around critical areas, such as governance, transparency, and integrating public opinion into government policymaking and decision-making processes. The talks aimed to find effective strategies to enhance administrative efficiency while ensuring more accountable and transparent delivery of public services.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that modern technology should be adopted to enhance monitoring mechanisms within government departments, particularly those related to public service delivery. She stated that through increasing reliance on technology, we can ensure more accurate assessments of departmental performance on time, which will result in better governance and improved service delivery to people.
Moreover, she also emphasized the development of advanced training mechanisms for administrative staff and police forces, noting that continuous training is necessary to maintain high professionalism and efficiency within these sectors. The chief minister asked concerned authorities to design state-of-the-art training programs that equip personnel with the required contemporary skills and knowledge to meet current challenges.

During the talk, Maryam Nawaz mentioned that establishing the Performance Index has already brought about a heightened sense among officers regarding their responsibilities towards citizens. This index serves as an essential instrument for evaluating the effectiveness and accountability of different departments; therefore, she called for strict monitoring of its performance indices so far, promoting good governance through DEFIM, whose role is pivotal here since it ensures the realization of objectives utilization of public funds.
She also discussed involving public feedback in the policymaking process, saying that including opinion is crucial because it enables formulating policies that consider people’s needs and desires. By actively involving citizens and allowing them to participate in decision-making, we make our laws work and become responsive leaders whose actions reflect what the majority wants from a government.
