KP Amends Rules: Inmates to Get Dal and Meat on Eid

The KP authority has introduced notable amendments to the Prison Rules 2018 to increase the quality of food given to prisoners. These changes aim to enable inmates to have better meals during their prison stay.

KP Amends Rules: Better Breakfast for Prisoners

According to the recent guidelines released by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department. Paratha and tea will now be part of the breakfast menu for all prison inmates. This simple yet wholesome meal can sustain them throughout the morning. But if a prisoner does not want tea. One can always request a substitute, which shall be given in the same quantity.

Improved Lunch and Dinner Meals

The new rules also include changes in the meals served for lunch and dinner. Gone are the days when prisoners were served plain, piping-hot rice or corn porridge. After these drastic changes, the prisoners will be served dishes and all their mimics of play: eggless cakes, split peas, meat, beans, chickpeas, green vegetables, rice pilaf, and halwa. This variation in the menu ensures that venturing from prison meat is healthier and nutritious when well reached.

Attention to Special Diet during Eid Festivals Special meals are provided during the government-designated public holidays to improve such occasions in prisons. The menu will include beef for the inmates on Eid al-Fitr and chicken on Eid and al-Adndand. These special meals bring some rejoicing to the inmates as they do not have quite the other avenues to do so in the prison.

Reasons For Why These Changes Are Required.

These changes in the prison food system are not just changes in procedures to ensure fuller bellies—they are changes that foster the health of the prisoner population. Sustenance that is beneficial to health, especially the body, requires certain food groups to be included in a diet. Not only should more nutritious meals be marketed to prisoners. But the government must also take care of the prisoners’ fundamental rights and needs.

This change is reflected in the supportive policies of the KP Jail Manual 2018. With the introduction of such dietary improvements, the care of the inmates has upgraded and become pleasant and reliable. Some of such developments are positive changes in supporting the prisoners’ well-being and rights in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
