Kaghan Bridge Collapse: Flood Sweeps Away Mother and Son

 

Heavy rains caused the floods that have recently hit parts of Pakistan. Floodwaters washed away sixteen shops in the Kaghan Bridge Collapse, and a mother and her son drowned there. In Islamabad, four children died in water-related incidents.

Heavy rainfall has severely impacted Kaghan Valley. The storm destroyed access roads and a fish farm in the Ghanool and Manovar Valley areas. The flood waters washed away sixteen shops in Mahandri, while a mother and son drowned in Manovar Valley. A bridge collapsed at Mahandri on Kaghan Road, stranding many tourists and locals.

In Islamabad, an electric current in water collected at ground level in Sector F-11/2 electrocuted two children. Seven-year-old Ghulam Muhammad and ten-year-old Waqas died when they were playing in the water when the current passed through them. Also, two children drowned while bathing in a seasonal pond in the Thana Bani Gala area, identified as 10-year-old Sahil and 12-year-old Wasil.

Flood Alerts Issued

Due to ongoing monsoon rains, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued flood alerts for different divisions across the country, including one each from Punjab Province, Sindh Province’s Larkana Division, and Hyderabad Division, Zhob Division from Balochistan Province, Sibi Division from Balochistan province, Naseerabad Division from Balochistan province, and Kalat Division from Balochistan province.

The NDMA spokesperson highlighted the risk of urban flooding over the next 24-48 hours for some parts of Punjab/Sindh, like Bahawalpur city, which could face severe conditions, too, so people living there should be safe.

Weather Forecast and Precautions

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast continuous heavy rainfall until August 6th. Flood-prone regions are Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Peshawar, Nowshera, and Moreover, low-lying areas of Sindh will also be at risk tomorrow.
NDMA has directed all relevant departments to take precautions against possible impacts due to floods caused by severe weather during this monsoon season. This is predicted to continue with torrential rains, so all persons residing within affected areas must remain alert for any eventuality.
