More than half of the weight of Apple’s iPhone SE 3 is the same as that of its predecessors, the only exception being the choice of design. In this regard, the upcoming iPhone SE 4 seems to be raising the bar. The previous leaks suggested that the new SE model would embrace the more extensive iPhone 15 features, such as a slimmed-down notch and an OLED screen. However, a recent leaked case image has revealed the glaring fact that the iPhone SE 4 may have an extra feature that is absent in most of Apple’s flagships: the Mute Switch.
The Only Device by iPhone SE 4 That Has and Keeps the Mute Switch
From the iPhone 15 Pro models onwards, Apple has used an Action Button in place of the mute switch. If this is true, the iPhone SE 4 will be the last new model within the Apple device range, which still functions with a Mute Switch button because all imports from new models employ a Mute Action Button.
Key takeaway: The design of the iPhone SE 4, assuming the extreme case scenarios in design, is a little far-fetched; it tends towards retaining the Mute Switch, which puts it above all other iPhones of its generation.
Leak Details: Case Image Hints at Key Design Choices
Sonny Dickson initially leaked this image by uploading it to the X social media platform.
From the case cutouts, it appears that the iPhone SE 4 will adopt a similar trend in design to that of the iPhone 15 series,, except for a few highlighted:
Mute Button: The case has been cut above the volume buttons, which suggests that a Master Mute Switch may be present.
Covered Buttons: Due to demand, the case manufacturers cover the buttons for the volume and power control settings on other iPhone models. This construction is presumably also valid for a Mute Switch, like the engagement of an action button for iPhone 15 Pro.
Design and Hardware Overview
- OLED Display: Screen Enhancement, as this would mean that an LCD screen will no longer be used but rather a bigger OLED screen.
- Smaller Notch: Allows the use of a new age notch in the iPhone 15.
- Feature Cuts: As many of these upgrades as there are, certain advanced Pro features are still likely to better upmarket tier devices.
The leaked case image of the iPhone SE 4 shows that Apple may retain the Mute Switch, allowing it to stand out among the iPhone offerings of 2024. As expectations rise, it is still unknown if this leak is true to life or if this is just a tiny glimpse of the actual product since more changes still might occur.
