Meta’s social media platform, Threads, has implemented significant updates for its users. Just a short while ago, a customizable dashboard was created. This thing lets people put whatever they want on their home screen—anything that is considered important by the user.
This feature allows users to:
Add or remove sections, such as:
Favorites
Trending topics
Latest posts
Reorder sections to suit their preferences
Customize the appearance of their dashboard, including:
Background color
Font size and style
Layout
New Option to Curate Feed
Furthermore, users are now presented with a new option to curate their feeds by selecting to see more or less specific types of posts.
This feature enables users to:
Swipe right to see more posts like the one they engaged with, such as:
Similar topics
Same content type (e.g., video, image, text)
Posts from the same author
Swipe left to see fewer posts like the one they engaged with, such as:
Different topics
Different content type
Posts from different authors
Announcement by Adam Mosseri
Adam Mosseri, the Head of Instagram, announced this update. According to him, users can indicate what kind of posts they want to see by swiping right or left. Additionally, they can also avoid seeing things they don’t want to see and search for more things that interest them which is expected to make their time on Threads funnier, as he said.
How it Works
Swiping right means you want to see more content like that, while swiping left shows disinterest. This feedback mechanism helps the algorithm of threads’ know what to put on your feed next. It takes into consideration several things, such as;
How many likes, comments, and shares a post has received?
User actions like clicks or swipes
The kind of content, i.e., video, image, or text
What a user prefers, i.e., favorite topics or authors
Similarity with TikTok’s “For You” Feed (Threads)
This feature is similar to TikTok’s “For You” feed algorithm, where relevant videos are shown based on user interactions. However, the threads algorithm is more advanced, as it considers multiple factors for an individualized experience.
Meta’s Expectations
Meta hopes that these changes will increase engagement among its users and app usage time as well. When people have control over what appears on their feeds, Meta believes that it creates a better social media environment where individuals can connect around shared interests.
Benefits for Users(Threads)
This update offers several benefits for users, including(Threads):
More control over their feed
Ability to see more relevant content
Improved user experience
Increased engagement and time spent on the app
Threads’ goal is to become a platform where people can connect and find different things. It does that by allowing users to have a greater degree of control over their feeds and making them more personalized.
