If 550B Rupees of Petrol is Smuggled Who Pays the Duty

Islamabad: Omar Ayub Khan, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Leader of the Resistance in the National Assembly has raised critical questions about the Smuggled of petroleum products. In a press conference held on Monday night in Islamabad by senior PTI leaders, including PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Asad Qaiser, and other key party figures, he said why and how petroleum products are being smuggled. Omar Ayub expressed severe concerns over smuggling operations, especially at Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s borders. He asked sarcastically whether patwaris (local land revenue officers) were doing border duty. He said 550 billion rupees worth of petroleum is being smuggled from Iran. Who is responsible for this lapse in border security? According to him, drug smuggling is also rampant, which needs urgent attention; therefore, action should be taken against those involved.

Omar Ayub Khan demanded that an anti-corruption campaign start from home, saying that PTI fully supports such initiatives. He urged people to ask the PM about Benami accounts, saying transparency and accountability must start from the top. He highlighted that NACTA was established per FATF requirements and should function effectively. And there must be no compromise on its workings. He further suggested creating a judicial commission for the Bannu incident to ensure a thorough, unbiased investigation.

Discussing Punjab issues, he criticized Mohsin Naqvi’s tenure for buying illegal wheat outside the province, which he unlawfully alleged. Moreover, Anwar Haq Kakar and Hanif Abbasi had conflicts over Form 45, indicating internal contradictions within the government.

He called for strict implementation of existing laws instead of new legislation because, according to him, the present legal framework, if appropriately enforced, can resolve the country’s problems. He termed DG ISPR’s press conference an indictment of the Government’s incompetence and demanded better governance.

He also expressed concern over the misuse of laws and regulations under the pretext of “Digital Terrorism.” Omar Ayub asked whether applying these laws against PTI members/supporters is digital terrorism. Therefore, legal processes should be transparent and fair.
