Heavy Rains Cause Widespread Flooding in Punjab

Interruption of Daily Life and Power Failure Heavy Rains 

These rains have caused intense traffic jams on many roads, including. But not limited to Lakshmi Chowk, Abbott Road, Shimla Pahari, Mall Road, Gulberg, Kalma Chowk Jail Road, Ferozepur Road. Qurtaba Chowk Mozang Chauburji Islampura Bund Road Gulshan Ravi Samanabad Mughalpura Tajpura Shahdara Farrukhabad, as rainwater accumulates there, making it difficult for people to move around. Also, many electricity feeders were tripped, resulting in hours-long power outages.

Weather Forecast and Flood Warning Heavy Rains 

According to the Meteorological Department, more rain is expected during the next 24 hours in northeastern & southern parts of Punjab province and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which will increase the risk of flooding in rain-fed streams & nullahs. During the last 24 hours. Narowal received maximum rainfall at 83 mm, followed by Lahore (77 mm at the airport & 45 mm in the city), Gujrat (36 mm), Gujranwala (53 mm), Sialkot (35 mm), Mandi Bahauddin (27 mm) & Sheikhupura (15mm).

Floods in Southern Punjab

In South Punjab, particularly the Ali Pur South area of Kandai. The Indus River flows in a high flood. Where low-lying areas like Dhaka Shah Wali Baqar Shah Mohib Shah Nusrat Pur Moza Chandia, etc. were submerged. The affectees have urgently appealed to Chief Minister Commissioner Dera Ghazi Khan. And Deputy Commissioner Muzaffargarh for immediate rescue & relief.

Warning by Federal Flood Commission

The Federal Flood Commission has predicted medium flooding in the Chenab River & high-level floods in the tributaries associated with the Ravi and Chenab Rivers. Moderate flood conditions have also been witnessed at the Indus River at Taunsa & Guddu. In Chiniot, river bank erosion has affected several villages near rivers, resulting in floodwaters inundating these areas. They report that more than 70 houses have been washed away. While hundreds of acres of crops were destroyed due to this water. They said we are left without livelihoods. And thus requested the CM and district administration to provide us compensation money along with the construction of dams so that remaining communities may be saved from further destruction caused by such floods.
