After a month of violent protests, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid resigned from office and fled to India. According to news agencies, her resignation came just an hour after her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the prime minister’s advisor for ICT, posted a video message online.
Appeal to Security Forces
In the video, Sajeeb urged the country’s security forces to stop any attempts to take over power from his mother as millions of protesters demanded he resign. Speaking from America, he said, “You must protect our people and our country and uphold the constitution. This means not allowing any unelected government to come into power for even one minute. This is your duty.”
He further warned that forcibly removing his mother would destroy Bangladesh’s integrity. He added that the country will undo all development, reverse all positive changes made over these years, and never recover from such a crisis.
Message to The Military
Sajeeb continued, “I do not want this to happen, and surely neither do you; I won’t let it happen for as long as I can.”
Sheikh Hasina’s Resignation
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had been facing protests over the quota system in Bangladesh when she stepped down following criticism against her government, including allegations of corruption, among others, which led to discontent within society towards ruling elites who have failed them throughout history but still hold onto power through manipulative means like rigging elections every few years while pretending democracy exists.
Military And Political Negotiations
According to reports by news agencies, Bangladeshi Army Chief General Waqar Uz-Zaman is now talking with political parties about this situation because he knows no easy solutions are available. Neither side refuses dialogue unless their demands are met first, so they keep fighting until one side wins completely.
Accordingly, during an address to military personnel yesterday, Chief of Army Staff General Waqar Uz-Zaman made clear that the army has always stood beside people and will continue doing so.
Future Plans for Sheikh Hasina
Indian media reports indicate Sheikh Hasina Wajid may have traveled from India via Finland. She attempted to record a speech before being relocated to safety but didn’t get the chance due to time constraints. Consequently, after exhausting all other options without success, they took necessary action to prevent escalation into a full-scale war between rival factions vying for control over national resources, wealth, power, authority, legitimacy, and sovereignty.
