France Far Right’s Electoral Bid Amid Looming Deadlock

France is amid its most important elections in years, with a potential historic victory for the far-right National Rally (RN). Nonetheless, this will likely lead to a political deadlock, allowing an anti-immigration party led by Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella to run the government and take over the control of the National Assembly for the first time.

A First Opportunity for National Rally

In the recent snap parliamentary elections, the RN scored success in the first round, prompting more than 200 opponents to withdraw in an effort to prevent a far-right win. Voting started in mainland France at 08:00 (06:00 GMT), and exit polls are expected after another twelve hours.

Macron’s Dilemma

It is difficult to imagine Emmanuel Macron coming out of this election scenario well, regardless of what happens. Citing a possible negative effect on the international reputation of the French Nation. This particular constituency covering Dreux is one among several key battles. With candidates like Marine Le Pen or Jordan Bardella having already taken their seats after securing over half of the votes cast.

Blocking National Election Hopes

Over 217 candidates across France have withdrawn to prevent an RN victory, which would have influenced the results. Projections show that RNs could be in the National Assembly, though final opinion polls suggest otherwise. On the other hand, it is unclear whether RN may manage to form a government, and Prof. Armin Steinbach from HEC Business School expects a possible vote of no confidence should they decide to govern.

Potential Alliances

Another possibility is to combine all other parties, excluding France “bowed (LFI), i” o a “grand coal “to” This idea has “gained traction. Regardless of what happens in the election, Greens leader Marine Tondelier has made it clear. She will never support any Macronist prime minister.
