Under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s chairmanship, the Federal Cabinet has approved a relief package of $50L Aid Pakistani Rupees for each family of missing persons.

According to the report, Pakistan suffered from terrorism as a result of the Afghan war and faced many internal problems after that. The Commission on Missing Persons has been working for the last ten years. During his previous term, PM Shehbaz Sharif formed a political parties’ committee to deal with this problem. Under the caretaker government, another committee was constituted to continue its work. The law enforcement agencies of Pakistan also contributed to preparing this document.

To this effect, the Cabinet has endorsed a National Commission on Forced Disappearances and approved the Terms of Reference (ToRs). Moreover, it gave its go-ahead to a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) between the Pakistani government and Chinese government, which aims at promoting trade in different fields like manufacturing of mobile phones, green energy cars, textiles, food processing industry, etc., as well as information technology among others.
Legislative Approvals $50L Aid
The Cabinet also granted preliminary approval for legislation related to the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) charter in Islamabad and the establishment of King Hamad University of Nursing and Associated Medical Sciences in Pakistan with Bahrain’s collaboration.

Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar briefed the media after the Cabinet meeting, stating that the state has made an extraordinary and historic decision to support the families of missing persons. He emphasized that the government would provide 5 million rupees as a grant to each family of disappeared persons, expressing that this reflects the state’s sincere commitment.

Senator Tarar pointed out that while there are multiple and complex reasons behind the disappearances, the state is acting motherly to address these issues. He acknowledged that despite painful allegations, the state and its institutions are taking commendable steps.
Data on Missing Persons $50L Aid
According to government sources, a committee headed by Azam Nazeer Tarar during the previous PDM government decided to provide grants to missing persons’ families. The commission established under the Inquiry Act has data on 2,269 missing persons. The Cabinet decided to aid 1,000 cases of missing persons who have been unresolved for over five years. In cases where a missing person is the head of a family, NADRA will issue a legal certificate to address inheritance issues.
