From Patli Bai to Shamim Ara

Born Patli Bai in 1938 in Aligarh, Shamim Ara became one of the most famous faces in the Pakistani cinema world. Her first movie was Kanwari Biwi, which was produced in 1956. Still, it was not until Sahili (1960s) that she was brought into the limelight, establishing her as one of the most important actresses in the Pakistani film industry.

Rise to Fame

Shamim Ara’s fame rose to its climax after she sang the Mujh Se Pehli Si Mohabbat Mere Mehboob Na Maang song from Qaidi, which was released in 1962. The anthem became popular then, and skills were highly appraised throughout Pakistan, making this event paramount among other milestones in her profession.
