A tragic incident occurred in Dijkot where four municipal committee officials lost their lives due to electric shocks and gas fumes. This unfortunate event also left two others, rescue worker Rana Nasir and municipal worker Hamid, in critical condition, fighting for their lives.
The deceased have been identified as Asghar, who was an electrician; Arsalan, a plumber; Mian Burhan; and driver Rana Shafiq. The incident has sparked an outcry among the citizens, who blame the lack of proper protective equipment and the delay in rescue operations for these preventable deaths.
The sequence of events began when the sewerage disposal motor malfunctioned. Rana Shafiq, the official on duty at the disposal site, noticed the problem and decided to take immediate action. He called other staff members for assistance and, with the help of local citizens, descended into the well to attempt repairs himself. During this process, water leakage caused the iron ladder to become electrified, posing a significant hazard.
Workers Die from Electric Shock and Fumes
In an attempt to rescue Shafiq, Burhan Shakoor, Arsalan, Asghar, and rescue worker Nasir, they entered the well. Unfortunately, they were all overcome by the electric shock from the ladder and the harmful gas fumes emanating from the well. The mixed results of the electric current and the toxic gases led to their immediate unconsciousness and subsequent collapse.
It wasn’t until later that additional rescue teams arrived on the scene in Dijkot. They worked diligently to retrieve all five individuals from the well. However, despite their efforts, four of the officials were pronounced dead on the spot. The scene was one of devastation. The lives of dedicated municipal workers were abruptly cut short due to what many argue was preventable negligence.
