CDA Launches New Digital Car Parking System in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has unveiled at G-8 Markaz a new concept of car parking for which Islamabad does not have an example. This is the first and most welcome development in parking facilities within the city. The project’s inauguration took place in the presence of CDA Chairperson Mohammad Ali Randhawa and board members. The CDA has implemented a policy providing visitors with free parking for 15 minutes. The new parking system and its management are under the control of the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), one of the MCI departments involved in digitization.

Management Background and Audit Issues

The committee has been accused of corruption in collecting parking fees. A specific review of its revenue expenditure performance conducted in 2022 would highlight irregularities and issues such as fraudulent printing of Parking Maturity Terminology and parking tickets. The audit also indicated poor management and a lack of transparency, which resulted in a loss of Rs. 82.34 million.

Investigation Status of the Case and The Prospect

The inquiry committee formed to investigate the issues raised by the audit has not yet disclosed its findings. The CDA and MCI are anticipating conducting more investigations to minimize the deficiencies accompanying the collection of parking fees.
