Bill Weber has been removed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Firefly Aerospace. The company, which builds launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles, announced the change late on Wednesday.
Interim Leadership and Search for New CEO
According to a statement released on the company’s website, while the board begins its search for a new CEO, board member Peter Schumacher will serve as interim CEO. Bill Weber is out as CEO of Firefly Aerospace, marking a significant leadership change for the space exploration company.
Weber’s Tenure and BackgroundÂ
After AE Industrial Partners, a private equity giant, acquired Firefly Aerospace in February 2022, joined the firm. He had previously served as CEO of KeyW Corporation, which provides intelligence and analytics services to U.S. defense agencies, and as president of XLA, a government services company.
Allegations and Investigation WeberÂ
Two days ago, Payload published a story about Firefly investigating allegations of an inappropriate relationship between Weber and a female employee. At the time, a Firefly representative stated, “Our initial findings do not support any facts behind this speculation.”
Company Policy on Departure Weber Details
The person who spoke did not comment on if Weber’s leaving was connected with the mentioned investigation as per their policy. TechCrunch had no immediate reply from when they requested comment.
Firefly Aerospace’s Market Position and Future Weber Plans
Firefly is among several firms including SpaceX or Rocket Lab that want more launches through its small Alpha rocket. While some other orbit transfer shuttle are under development aiming at enhancing satellite’s movement possibility.

In May Bloomberg reported that AEI along with other investors were thinking about selling off the Texas-based business for around 1.5 billion dollars. Bill is out as CEO of Firefly Aerospace, marking a significant leadership change for the space exploration company.
