Washington, D.C.- After confirming the report of the death of Hassan Nasrallah, an official leader of Hezbollah, President Biden was quick to describe the bombing raid in Beirut as a ‘measure of justice’ for the many victims of Nasrallah. This particular strike that occurred on Biden’s watch on Friday has, in his words, become the turning point in the war in the area, especially after the killing spree executed by Hamas on October 7ber, 2023.
A Violent Record for Nasrallah
In a statement posted on the White website, President Biden stated that in the last forty years, Nasrallah and Hezbollah have killed hundreds of Americans and caused mass civilian casualties in Israel and Lebanon, killing thousands of people. As a turning point in a plot that eventually resulted in Nasrallah’s death, he remembered that it was the moment when Nasrallah decided to support Hamas and open a ‘northern front’ to fight over Israel.
Hezbollah’s rocket and drone attacks against Israel from Lebanon have noticeably intensified during the ongoing conflict with Hamas. This series of attacks has alarmed the vicinity as it warrants severe interventions, a sentiment echoed by some senior U.S. officials who dismissed it as a “grave and precarious” situation.
The Escalation of Violence
The airstrike that killed Ghazi also relied on a host of air trikes that had targeted various Hezbollah officials on September 18 18. That first wave of strikes was very devastating, leaving more than 12 people dead within the Hezbollah and the surrounding civilian population, including two children. Asel recently heightened tensions by targeting resident buildings suspected of housing Hezbollah weapons. A missile attack in Lebanon on Monday resulted in the deaths of more than 500 people.
Call for Cease-Fire
On being asked how realistic the scenarios of an Israeli ground invasion of Lebanon are, President Biden switched attention to how a cease-fire is to be observed. His administration has over and over again sustained statements endorsing self-defense to Israel from aggressors like Hezbollah and Hamas, among other Iran-funded terrorists. Moreover, Vice President Biden has ordered the Secretary of Defense to increase the number of U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East Region, aiming to stop further movement in that direction.
In his remarks at the last session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Biden, as expected, emphasized the importance of restraint and, in particular, stated that there’s no interest in ‘a full-scale war.’ His government reverses the prevailing trend of addressing ongoing wars through military means to bring the raging fire of the conflict in the region under control.
The death of Hassan Nasrallah stands as a remarkable turning point in the politics of Hezbollah and also the position of the conflict in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the chilling reality of the forthcoming Benson House gives rise to reassurance that this will be the last administration that will have to support Israel and try to solve the problem diplomatically rather than letting the White House in total abandon any efforts of petty balance.
