Belarus Joins Shanghai Cooperation | Strategic Alliance

 

Belarus has become a full Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member. The 24th SCO summit started here on Thursday, a milestone for the organization and Belarus. The expansion of membership means more comprehensive coverage and deeper cooperation.

All relevant documents were signed at the ceremony. This solemn inclusion shows that the SCO’s international importance is increasing yearly. The summit allowed leaders to have in-depth exchanges and set directions for future cooperation.

After the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with President Alexander Lukashenko. In this bilateral meeting, both sides focused on enhancing political relations, strengthening trade investment and defense cooperation between the two countries, and addressing common concerns over regional issues within the SCO framework.

Enhancing political relations and economic ties

Prime Minister Sharif talked with President Lukashenko about enhancing mutual respect through political stability to promote robust bilateral relations. They also reached a consensus that continued dialogue and cooperation among them should be maintained to address shared challenges while taking advantage of common opportunities.

In terms of economic ties, both expressed their determination to raise levels of trade investments between Pakistan and Belarus; they identified potential areas where technological knowhow can be shared, such as the agriculture sector through energy collaboration too, but not limited only to these two sectors since there are many others as well like industrialization etc which would lead towards sustainable development goals(SDGs) achievement for both countries.

Defense Cooperation & Regional Stability

Another important point discussed during the meeting was defense cooperation. Premier Shehbaz Sharif emphasized military collaboration with the Belarusian president to ensure regional peace. Prime Minister Sharif said while talking to President Lukashenko, “Joint military exercises should take place between us.” he added that we need each other’s experience, so sharing best practices will help improve our defense capabilities. In light of Belarus’ recent induction into the SCO. President Lukashenko received warm regards from Prime Minister Sharif, who said that it would enhance and deepen their relations. He highlighted the need for combined endeavors and shared objectives while responding to worldwide or local problems.

Belarus’ joining the SCO is expected to bring new opportunities for cooperation and development. As the organization keeps growing, it aims to ensure peace, stability, and economic growth within the region. Belarus’ inclusion is a significant step towards these objectives, as well as promoting collaboration among member states.
