Bar Councils Meet CJ Isa to Discuss Judicial Reforms

 

A subcommittee of the Inter-Provincial Bar Councils thanked Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa for appointing ad hoc judges.

Among those who attended the meeting were Adil Aziz Qazi. Vice Chairman of Islamabad Bar Council; Farooq Khattak, member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Qasim Ghizai, Vice Chairman of Balochistan Bar Council. Abdul Razzaq, member of Sindh Bar Council. And Pir Imran Akram Bodla. Chairman Executive Committee Punjab Bar Council. The committee raised concerns about the continued failure to approve judicial commission laws. And the lack of a timetable, which caused delays. They expressed concern over the backlog in criminal justice system cases. Urging CJ to devise a plan for their expeditious resolution. They also thanked him for appointing ad-hoc judges to hear criminal cases.

Boosting Accessibility and Performance

The committee suggested activating Supreme Court registries all over Pakistan to improve accessibility and performance. It proposed that judicial duty and transparency may be ensured by reviewing selections made by the High Court and Supreme Court judges. According to their announcement. All bar councils work jointly with the judiciary to bolster the justice system and uphold the rule of law.

Worries About Pending Judicial Reforms

At this meeting organized by IBC (Inter-Provincial Bar Council). The subcommittee on pending approval of laws relating to judicial commissions, which have resulted in delays, was discussed. The members were uncertain because there was no fixed date for this. Therefore, considering only a few days are left, we need a structured timeline. If we want things done faster than before, then let us set regular session meetings.

Addressing Criminal Cases Backlog

Leaders from different bars stressed the need for immediate action regarding pending criminal cases. The committee appreciated the appointment of ad hoc judges. And it was requested that now, more than ever. Those sitting at the topmost level should focus on ensuring that justice reaches all corners where it is needed most.

Suggestions for Judicial Accountability and Transparency

The committee has suggested a few things that could rationalize the functioning of this institution. They said the Supreme Court should activate registries in each province to allow people from distant places to have their cases heard there. At the same time, they proposed reviewing judges’ performance based on the number of cases they resolve to enhance transparency within our legal system.
